Our Roots

Wyoming Ranching Heritage

The Wyoming and ranching roots for Wyoming Gourmet Beef Founder & CEO, David Fales, began in 1918 when his great-grandparents, grandparents and 9-month-old father left Missouri to homestead in Deaver, Wyoming. Here they cleared sagebrush, planted crops, and raised cattle within a pristine, rugged environment.

David was born in Cody, Wyoming in 1949, and lived nearby on this farm and cattle-feeding operation in Powell, Wyoming. He grew up assisting his father in raising and feeding cattle, and gained a great respect for the Wyoming ranchers who endure bitter cold and all types of harsh weather conditions to raise great cattle.

Our Dream

David Fales first began dreaming about being in the cattle and ranching business when he had an assignment in the eighth grade to write about what he wanted to do when he grew up. Although his expansive business career took him to major cities around the world, his childhood desires to return to his native Wyoming roots never left him.

He became increasingly intrigued with the idea of launching a specialty beef business to leverage the rich, Western heritage of the state's ranching industry while also addressing consumers' concerns about the origin, quality, and safety of their food.

David has always loved Wyoming cattle and remembering the delicious beef he ate when he was growing up. Now, he is passionate about providing this same consistently great-tasting, nutritious beef to others.

Our dream has now become our reality as we share Wyoming Gourmet Beef with the world!

Company Background

After 40+ years of working all around the world, David Fales returned to Cody, Wyoming in 2009 to help his elderly father. Shortly after, his father passed away and David decided to stay in Cody and establish Wyoming Gourmet Beef in order to recognize and benefit the ranching and beef industry in the great state of Wyoming.

In 2013, Wyoming Gourmet Beef built the first USDA processing plant in Wyoming. It is an SQF Certified “craft” facility, where the delicious, source-verified beef snacks are hand-cut and hand-packaged. Located in the small town of Cody, Wyoming, with a population of 10,000 people, we now ship our beef products all around the world!

Joining the ranks of other readily recognized state foods such as Famous Idaho Potatoes, Maine Lobster, Wisconsin Cheese, Georgia Peaches, Washington Apples, Florida Oranges, and New York Cheesecake—our mission is now to put Wyoming Gourmet Beef on the map where it rightfully belongs in the food industry.

We hope Wyoming Gourmet Beef will be your beef of choice for its nutritional benefits, delicious flavor, tenderness, and rich Western heritage!
